Bill Vining had a sorrel coltA
Some two years old or moreB
But the colt was wild as a mountain deerC
And a bridle never woreB
And so one dayD
Bill took his coltA
named Lilly Willy WokenE
And whipp'd him till his stubborn willF
And the whiplash both were brokenE
-
Broke Broke BrokenE
Your stubborn will is brokenE
You will dance no more on the sable floorB
O Lilly Willy WokenE
-
Bill Vining was a bankerG
He had a bag of goldH
And not only uncurrent coinI
But customers he soldH
But while he went to break his coltA
Young Lilly Willy WokenE
His teller told with his bag of goldH
And thus the bank was brokenE
-
Broke Broke BrokenE
Your master's bank is brokenE
He will count no more his profits o'erG
O Lilly Willy WokenE
-
Bill Vining was a loverG
He had a lady fairJ
Who had said thro' life she'd be his wifeK
And his bag of gold would shareJ
But when she saw that all was lostL
Save Lilly Willy WokenE
She felt inclined to change her mindM
And so his heart was brokenE
-
Broke Broke BrokenE
Your master's heart is brokenE
He will sing no more at his lady's doorB
O Lilly Willy WokenE
-
Bill Vining was a mournerG
He had a host of woesN
And grave despair was pictured whereJ
A smile did once reposeN
And so he took the halter offO
From Lilly Willy WokenE
And from a shelf he hung himselfP
And thus his neck was brokenE
-
Broke Broke BrokenE
Your master's neck is brokenE
And you see what came of a stubborn frameQ
O Lilly Willy WokenE
