ON SAINT HELEN'S DAY	A

DEAR Boys dismiss'd awhile from school	B
From sober learning's thorny rule	B
The annual race of glory run	C
The prize bestow'd the laurels won	C
Ye leave the scientific dome	D
While noisy rapture hails your home	D
Home cherish'd spot whose magic power	E
Can charm with hope the studious hour	E
And where the heart however far	F
Points like the needle to its star	F

And now with many a fond oration	C
Ye ask to crown this dear vacation	C
Saturnian time of sport and play	A
A F TE to grace SAINT HELEN'S DAY	A
But will the Saint propitious see	G
A F te dear Boys prepar'd for me	G
I who her altar never sought	H
An heretic who idly thought	H
She liv'd alone in pagan fame	I
And half forgot her sainted name	I
But since that name entwin'd with palms	J
The legend's deathless page embalms	J
And since historic truth must own	K
Her crested votary fill'd a throne	K
We'll lay our offerings at her shrine	L
And call her as she is divine	L
Then haste dear Boys and deck the bowers	J
This chosen day with festive flowers	J
The votive bouquet joyful bring	M
And bid your muse on lofty wing	M

The steep Parnassian summits climb	N
And weave the tributary rhyme	N
The soothing song which ye rehearse	J
Though form'd of perishable verse	J
And like the bouquet born to die	O
Shall fill with tears affection's eye	O
Shall touch with eloquence confest	O
The chords which vibrate in her breast	O
Then hither bring the early friend	O
With whom your bounding hearts unbend	O
Till then in vain the F te prepared	O
What F te unless by friendship shar'd	O
Together happy band advance	J
Together frame the sportive dance	J
Together tread the mimic stage	P
The TALMAS of another age	P
And then to crown this favor'd night	O
Unquestion'd symbol of delight	O
The soaring rocket swift shall rise	J
And sweeping gild the midnight skies	J

Bright wheels of fire shall rapid turn	Q
And suns that soon must set shall burn	Q
SAINT HELEN with a smile shall view	R
Her rites all paid in order due	R
The Saint become my patron now	S
To her and you I breathe my vow	S
Listen dear Boys nor take amiss	J
A lesson with a parting kiss	J
Your life has clos'd its baby span	T
And childhood ripens into man	T
On youth's gay threshold now ye tread	O
The path unfolds with roses spread	O
That leads the unsuspecting guest	O
Where Pleasure holds her Circean feast	O
With bosoms yet from evil free	G
Now promise to the Saint and me	G
Oft as the years on circling wing	M
This fond returning day shall bring	M
While o'er the world ye lightly roam	D
Far from the long lost scene of home	D

This day in Pleasure's course to pause	J
This day let Reason plead her cause	J
When come the years for come they must	O
When her ye love is laid in dust	O
Her who for you has learn'd to prove	U
A mother's care a mother's love	V
From you all ill has sought to chase	J
And fill a mother's vacant place	J
Still on this day to duty true	R
Remember that she liv'd for you	R
Ah give her one recording sigh	O
Nor pass this day with tearless eye	O
Still may its chosen hours impart	O
The throb of virtue to the heart	O
And be the talisman whose spell	W
Shall Passion's wild delirium quell	W
Controul with some good angel's power	E
Seduction in her smiling hour	E
This day from all her wiles secure	X
With nobler hopes with purpose pure	X

Resolve to feel that best delight	O
Reserv'd for those who live aright	O
And thus dear Boys your tribute pay	A
