To Mrs. K--, Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: AABBCCDDEEFF GGHHIIJJKKLLMM

WHAT crowding thoughts around me wakeA
What marvels in a Christmas cakeA
Ah say what strange enchantment dwellsB
Enclos'd within its od'rous cellsB
Is there no small magician boundC
Encrusted in its snowy roundC
For magic surely lurks in thisD
A cake that tells of vanish'd blissD
A cake that conjures up to viewE
The early scenes when life was newE
When mem'ry knew no sorrows pastF
And hope believ'd in joys that lastF
-
Mysterious cake whose folds containG
Life's calendar of bliss and painG
That speaks of friends for ever fledH
And wakes the tears I love to shedH
Oft shall I breathe her cherish'd nameI
From whose fair hand the off'ring cameI
For she recalls the artless smileJ
Of nymphs that deck my native IsleJ
Of beauty that we love to traceK
Allied with tender modest graceK
Of those who while abroad they roamL
Retain each charm that gladdens homeL
And whose dear friendship can impartM
A Christmas banquet for the heartM
