To A Friend, Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis
Rhyme Scheme: AB BBCDBBBBEE BBFFGHIIWHO SENT ME FLOWERS WHEN CONFINED BY | A |
ILLNESS | B |
- | |
- | |
WHILE sickness still my step detains | B |
From scenes where vernal pleasure reigns | B |
Where Spring has bath'd with dewy tear | C |
The blossoms of the op'ning year | D |
To soothe confinement's languid hours | B |
You send a lavish gift of flowers | B |
Midst whose soft odours mem'ry roves | B |
O'er all the images she loves | B |
Not long their sweetness shall prevail | E |
Their rosy tints shall soon be pale | E |
- | |
Yet fancy in their fading hues | B |
No emblem of our friendship views | B |
Its firm fidelity shall last | F |
When all the flowers of spring are past | F |
And when life's summer shall be o'er | G |
That summer which returns no more | H |
Still friendship with perennial bloom | I |
Shall soften half the winter's gloom | I |
