Sonnet To The Curlew Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis
Rhyme Scheme: ABBAABBACDCDCDSOOTH'D by the murmurs on the sea beat shore | A |
His dun grey plumage floating to the gale | B |
The Curlew blends his melancholy wail | B |
With those hoarse sounds the rushing waters pour | A |
Like thee congenial bird my steps explore | A |
The bleak lone sea beach or the rocky dale | B |
And shun the orange bower the myrtle vale | B |
Whose gay luxuriance suits my soul no more | A |
I love the ocean's broad expanse when drest | C |
In limpid clearness or when tempests blow | D |
When the smooth currents on its placid breast | C |
Flow calm as my past moments us'd to flow | D |
Or when its troubled waves refuse to rest | C |
And seem the symbol of my present woe | D |
