Sonnet On Reading Burns' Mountain Daisy Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABABCDCDBBBBBB

While soon the quot garden's flaunting flowers quot decayA
And scatter'd on the earth neglected lieB
The quot Mountain Daisy quot cherish'd by the rayA
A poet drew from heav'n shall never dieB
Ah like that lovely flower the poet roseC
'Mid penury's bare soil and bitter galeD
He felt each storm that on the mountain blowsC
Nor ever knew the shelter of the valeD
By Genius in her native vigour nurstB
On Nature with impassion'd look he gazedB
Then through the cloud of adverse fortune burstB
Indignant and in light unborrow'd blaz'dB
Shield from rude sorrow SCOTIA shield thy bardB
His heav'n taught numbers Fame herself will guardB
