She comes benign enchantress heav'n born PEACEB
With mercy beaming in her radiant eyeA
She bids the horrid din of battle ceaseB
And at her glance the savage passions dieA
'Tis Nature's festival let earth rejoiceC
And pour to Liberty exulting songsD
In distant regions with according voiceC
Let Man the vict'ry bless its prize to Man belongsD

Resistless Freedom when she nerves the armE
No vulgar triumph crowns the hero's mightF
She she alone can spread a moral charmE
O'er war's fell deeds and sanctify the fightF
O GALLIA in this bright immortal hourG
How proud a trophy binds thy laurel'd browH
Republic hail whose independent powerG
All earth contested once all earth confesses nowH

Protecting spirits of the glorious deadI
Ah not in vain the hero's noble toilJ
Ah not in vain the patriot's blood is shedI
That blood shall consecrate his native soilJ
Illustrious names to hist'ry's record dearK
And breath'd when some high impulse fires the bardL
For you shall virtue pour the glowing tearM
And your remember'd deeds shall still your country guardL

And thou lov'd BRITAIN my parental IsleO
Secure encircled by thy subject wavesP
Thou land august where Freedom rear'd her pileO
While gothic night obscur'd a world of slavesP
Thy genius that indignant heard the shockQ
Of frantic combat strife unmeet for theeR
Now views triumphant from his sea girt rockQ
Thee unsubdued alone for thou alone wert freeR

O happy thy misguided efforts fail'dS
My Country when with tyrant hosts combin'dT
O hideous conquest had thy sword prevail'dS
And crown'd the impious league against mankindT
Thou nurse of great design of lofty thoughtU
What homicide had thy insensate rageV
Effac'd the sacred lesson thou hast taughtU
And with thy purest blood inscrib'd on glory's pageV

Ah rather haste to Concord's holy shrineW
Ye rival nations haste with joy elateX
Your blending garlands round her altar twineW
And bind the wounds of no immortal hateX
Go breathe responsive rituals o'er the sodY
Where Freedom martyrs press an early graveN
Go vow that never shall their turf be trodY
By the polluting step of tyrant or of slaveN

-
And from your shores the abject vices chaseZ
That low Ambition generous souls disdainA2
Corruption blasting every moral graceZ
Servility that kneels to bless his chainA2
O Liberty those demons far removeN
Come nymph severely good sublimely greatX
Nor to the raptur'd hope of mortals proveN
Like those illusive dreams that pass the iv'ry gateX

-
New Age that roll'st o'er man thy dawning yearK
Ah sure all happy omens hail thy birthB2
Sure whiter annals in thy train appearK
And purer glory cheers the gladden'd earthB2
Like the young eagle when his stedfast glanceC2
Meets the full sun beam in his upward flightF
So thou shalt with majestic step advanceC2
And fix thy dauntless eye on Liberty and LightF
