Lines Addressed To A.c. Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCDDEE A FFAAEE A GGHHEE D IIGGEE

IA
DEAR Babe soft object of my careB
Unseen for whom I pour my pray'rC
Unknown yet priz'd all else aboveD
The heir of my maternal loveD
Ah let me hail in simplest layE
Thy earliest New Year's DayE

-
Nor past nor future cloud thy browF
Thy range of thought confin'd to nowF
Calm on a mother's breast you lieA
And heed not if with tearful eyeA
For thee her wishes fondly strayE
O'er many a New Year's DayE

IIIA
-
Yet soon the years in rapid flightG
Shall wake thy heart to new delightG
Soon shall exulting youth draw nearH
With charms so fresh and hopes so dearH
And lovely as the bloom of MayE
Shall seem each New Year's DayE

-
But ah since Time at length will bringI
No rapture on his weary wingI
Then o'er thy path no longer brightG
May Virtue shed a line of lightG
That cheers the pilgrim when his wayE
Leads to no New Year's DayE
