Washington Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABAB CDDDEE DDFF GHIII

Oh hero of our younger raceA
Great builder of a temple newB
Ruler who sought no lordly placeA
Warrior who sheathed the sword he drewB
-
Lover of men who saw afarC
A world unmarred by want or warD
Who knew the path and yet forboreD
To tread till all men should imploreD
Who saw the light and led the wayE
Where the gray world might greet the dayE
-
Father and leader prophet sureD
Whose will in vast works shall endureD
How shall we praise him on this day of daysF
Great son of fame who has no need of praiseF
-
How shall we praise him Open wide theG
Of heroes moves o er unresounding floorsH
Men whose brawned arms upraised these colors highI
And reared the towers that vanish in the skyI
The strong who having wrought can never never dieI
