The River Kern Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABABACCDDDEFFEB GHGHGIIDDDGJJGH DIDIDKKDDGAAGI

While I walk the pavement sootyA
In the townB
Tread the stony path of dutyA
Up and downB
Oh the Kern all clad in beautyA
Silver sheenC
On blue and greenC
Down his canon goes cascadingD
CavalcadingD
CannonadingD
Seizing all the brooks and fountainsE
How they beatF
Their crystal feetF
Shouting to the haughty mountainsE
Giant peaks that frownB
-
Oh my heart runs with the riverG
Far awayH
Though through wintry streets I shiverG
Day by dayH
Oh I see the sunshine quiverG
Shafts of lightI
That pause in flightI
While the Kern with white feet prancingD
Downward dancingD
Gaily glancingD
Shakes the massive earth from underG
How he shocksJ
The solemn rocksJ
Shoves the mighty cliffs asunderG
Bids them guard his playH
-
Now I hear the horns a blowingD
From the heightI
And I see white garments flowingD
Sheer and brightI
Down the hills the Kern is goingD
Hear him callK
His legions allK
Ye intrepid oh come leapingD
Leave your sleepingD
Swords from scabbards hark the clamorG
Swift and freeA
Oh would you beA
In the glory in the glamourG
Follow day and nightI
