Maternity Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCBDB DECEFE GDHDID JAKALA

After the months of torporA
Weakness and ache and strainB
After this day's deep drowningC
In stormy seas of painB
To feel your hand my babyD
Upon my bosom lainB
-
My little one my babyD
What woes your touches quellE
It is the Christ child comingC
To save a soul from hellE
Out in the happy gardensF
You bring me now to dwellE
-
My baby O belovedG
Mine only you shall beD
Even as the soul our Lord's isH
Who died upon the treeD
Have I not won you dearestI
By pain as he won meD
-
So sweet so soft so littleJ
Such a wee helpless flowerA
How may I shield you dear oneK
From the world's ruthless powerA
And hold you close and warm hereL
As now in your first hourA
