Fit for perpetual worship is the power | B |
That holds our bodies safely to the earth | C |
- | |
When people talk of their domestic gods | D |
Then privately I think of You | E |
- | |
We ride through space upon your shoulders | F |
Conveniently and lightly set | G |
And so accustomed we relax our hold | H |
Forget the gentle motion of your body | I |
But You do not forget | G |
- | |
Sometimes you breathe a little faster | B |
Or move a muscle | J |
Then we remember you O Master | B |
- | |
- | |
II | A |
- | |
When people meet in reverent groups | K |
And sing to their domestic God | L |
You all the time dear tyrant How I laugh | M |
Could without effort place your hand among them | N |
And sprinkle them about the desert | O |
- | |
But all your ways are carefully ordered | P |
For you have never questioned duty | I |
We watch your everlasting combinations | Q |
We call them Fate we turn them to our pleasure | B |
And when they most delight us call them beauty | I |
- | |

- | |
I rest my body on your grass | R |
And let my brain repose in you | E |
I feel these living moments pass | R |
And from within myself to those far places | S |
To be imagined in your times and spaces | S |
Deliberate the various acts you do | E |
- | |
Sorting and re arranging worlds of Matter | B |
Keenly and wisely Thus you brought our earth | C |
Through stages and from purpose back to purpose | T |
From fire to fog to dust to birth | C |
Through beast to man who led himself to brain | U |
Then you invoked him back to dust again | V |
- | |
By leave of you he places stone on stone | W |
He scatters seed you are at once the prop | X |
Among the long roots of his fragile crop | X |
You manufacture for him and insure | Y |
House harvest implement and furniture | B |
And hold them all secure | Y |
- | |

- | |
The hill The trees From underneath | Z |
I feel You pull me with your hand | A2 |
Through my firm feet up to my heart | B2 |
You hold me You are in the land | A2 |
Reposing underneath the hill | C2 |
- | |
You keep my balance and my growth | D2 |
I lift a foot but where I go | E2 |
You follow you the ever strong | F2 |
Control the smallest thing I do | E |
- | |
I have some little human power | B |
To turn your purpose to my end | G2 |
For which I thank you every hour | B |
I stand at worship while you send | G2 |
Thrills up my body to my heart | B2 |
And I am all in love to know | E2 |
How by your strength you keep me part | B2 |
Of earth which cannot let me go | E2 |
How everything I see around | H2 |
Whether it can or cannot move | M |
Is granted liberty of ground | H2 |
And freedom to enjoy your love | M |
- | |
Though you are silent always and alone | W |
To You yourself your power remains unknown | W |
