Dog Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABAB CDCEDE FGFH IIJJ KLKL MNMOON PQPQRSRS

You little friend your nose is ready you sniffA
Asking for that expected walkB
Your nostrils full of the happy rabbit whiffA
And almost talkB
-
And so the moment becomes a moving forceC
Coats glide down from their pegs in the humble darkD
The sticks grow live to the stride of their vagrant courseC
You scamper the stairsE
Your body informed with the scent and the track and the markD
Of stoats and weasels moles and badgers and haresE
-
We are going OUT You know the pitch of the wordF
Probing the tone of thought as it comes through fogG
And reaches by devious means half smelt half heardF
The four legged brain of a walk ecstatic dogH
-
Out in the garden your head is already lowI
Can you smell the rose Ah noI
But your limbs can drawJ
Life from the earth through the touch of your padded pawJ
-
Now sending a little look to us behindK
Who follow slowly the track of your lovely playL
You carry our bodies forward away from mindK
Into the light and fun of your useless dayL
-
-
-
Thus for your walk we took ourselves and wentM
Out by the hedge and the tree to the open groundN
You ran in delightful strata of wafted scentM
Over the hill without seeing the viewO
Beauty is smell upon primitive smell to youO
To you as to us it is distant and rarely foundN
-
Home and further joy will be surely thereP
Supper waiting full of the taste of boneQ
You throw up your nose again and sniff and stareP
For the rapture knownQ
Of the quick wild gorge of food and the still lie downR
While your people talk above you in the lightS
Of candles and your dreams will merge and drownR
Into the bed delicious hours of nightS
