Repose Of Rivers Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCDE FGHIJC KLMNO PQRST CA

The willows carried a slow soundA
A sarabande the wind mowed on the meadB
I could never rememberC
That seething steady leveling of the marshesD
Till age had brought me to the seaE
-
-
Flags weeds And remembrance of steep alcovesF
Where cypresses shared the noon sG
Tyranny they drew me into hades almostH
And mammoth turtles climbing sulphur dreamsI
Yielded while sun silt rippled themJ
AsunderC
-
-
How much I would have bartered the black gorgeK
And all the singular nestings in the hillsL
Where beavers learn stitch and toothM
The pond I entered once and quickly fledN
I remember now its singing willow rimO
-
-
And finally in that memory all things nurseP
After the city that I finally passedQ
With scalding unguents spread and smoking dartsR
The monsoon cut across the deltaS
At gulf gates There beyond the dykesT
-
-
I heard wind flaking sapphire like this summerC
And willows could not hold more steady soundA

Roger: The poem is a river's soliloquy as it heads seaward, and has various experiences, some lovely some frightening, some puzzling. Life is like that.
