The Half-way House Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABABCC BDBDEE FCFCGG

Love I was shewn upon the mountain sideA
And bid to catch Him ere the dropp of dayB
See Love I creep and Thou on wings dost rideA
Love it is evening now and Thou awayB
Love it grows darker here and Thou art aboveC
Love come down to me if Thy name be LoveC
-
My national old Egyptian reed gave wayB
I took of vine a cross barred rod or roodD
Then next I hungered Love when here they sayB
Or once or never took love's proper foodD
But I must yield the chase or rest and eatE
Peace and food cheered me where four rough ways meetE
-
Hear yet my paradox Love when all is givenF
To see Thee I must see Thee to love loveC
I must o'ertake Thee at once and under heavenF
If I shall overtake Thee at last aboveC
You have your wish enter these walls one saidG
He is with you in the breaking of the breadG
