The fleecy clouds were driftingB
And through them as she sailed the skyA
The moon's soft light was siftingB

All dew bedecked each flower and sprayC
Like myriad jewels glintingB

Across the lawn there floats the soundD
Of music sweet entrancingB
'Neath a latticed casement ivy boundD
Where love lit eyes were glancingB

The flute and harp and mandolinE
There dulcet notes were blendingB
And strains divine from a violinE
In harmony ascendingB

Enraptured by the magic spellF
I lingering stood and listeningB
It seemed to me that I could tellF
What love to her was whisperingB

I looked above and chanced to seeA
The man in the moon was scowlingB
For they had struck up Sweet MarieA
And the old watch dog was howlingB
