With fleet limbed steeds and baying packB
They follow close on Reynard's trackB
And wake the slumbering echoes roundC
With music of the horn and houndC
Through wood and field o'er hill and daleD
They course him in the moonlight paleD
And sport they find which brings delightE
These reckless riders of the nightE

The game is up away awayF
Nor hedge nor fence their course can stayF
They clear them at a single leapG
And like the wind they onward sweepG
O'er fallen trunk and hidden ditchH
The fearless horsemen plunge and pitchH
And heedless all they follow onI
With ringing shout and winding hornJ

Thy wondrous ride oh Tam O'ShanterK
To speed like theirs was but a canterK
Had you bestrode that night insteadL
Of gray mare Meg a thoroughbredL
Such as Kentuckians only breedM
To Scotia then an unknown steedM
No carline could have caught his rumpN
And left your brute with scarce a stumpN

-
His foaming horse with throbbing sidesP
Unslackened yet his pace he ridesP
Till in among the yelping houndsQ
The foremost huntsman proudly boundsQ
And sees the leaders of the chaseR
Two matchless dogs that set the paceR
O'ertake the game and win the raceR
And then dismounts and feels the flushS
Of victory as he takes the brushS

VO
-
O royal sport befitting kingsT
It bids the demon Care take wingsT
And the rose's hue to the cheek it bringsT
And sweeter music none can hearK
Than that which greets the list'ning earK
By distance mellowed to a keyO
That breathes divinest harmonyO
And wakes the slumbering echoes roundC
The winding horn and baying houndC
