George W. Childs. Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: A BCBC DEDE FDFD GHGH EIEI JKJK

FEBRUARY THA
-
-
Gone to his exceeding great rewardB
The friend of rich and poor alikeC
And there'll rest not beneath the swardB
More shining mark that death could strikeC
-
The benefactor of his raceD
His noble soul from avarice freeE
By heaven lent the sordid earth to graceD
A nation's tears sincerely shed for theeE
-
Thrice blest the one in lowly lotF
Contented with an humble placeD
Who by thy noble heart was ne'er forgotF
And knew thy smiling loving faceD
-
Oh thus too early snatched awayG
From generous act and loving deedH
Thousands will now deplore the dayG
Thousands now whose hearts will bleedH
-
The heaven pointing shaft for theeE
Its stately head might never raiseI
But thy sweet memory would ever beE
Hymned by thy fellow mortals' praiseI
-
Oh thanks to Him who in His image madeJ
And to the world this beacon gaveK
With tears we'll water flowers that never fadeJ
And gently drop upon his new made graveK
