A Twist Of "natural Leaf." Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: AABBCC DDEEFF BBGHFF DDIIFF JJDDBB

Some sing of the lily some sing of the roseA
Some sing of each flower in beauty that blowsA
But sing me a song that shall render its meedB
To the fragrance and aroma found in a weedB
Which banishes care and mitigates griefC
I mean a big twist of old natural leafC
-
When sorrow's dark mantle the spirit doth wearD
And the heart is oppressed with the demon of careD
Then get out your pipe and its magic invokeE
And all of your troubles will vanish in smokeE
O you who have tried it will know what I meanF
When the praises I sing of a hank of long greenF
-
Since the days of King James and his old counterblastB
Its sway of all classes has ever held fastB
And its patron saint Raleigh forever will liveG
In remembrance as sweet as affection can giveH
And the incense we burn is an offering seenF
In wreaths of blue smoke from a twist of long greenF
-
Now some may advise you and others may swearD
That nicotine poison your nerves will impairD
And if from the weed you'd just kept aloofI
From heartburn and palsy you'd surely been proofI
For a man who had died at a hundred fifteenF
Was hastened away by smoking long greenF
-
But a cigar a pipe or a good juicy chewJ
Will yield you more comfort than harm they will doJ
And murder the microbes that float in the airD
And make magical dreams in the old arm chairD
If you will remember and never forgetB
To just draw the line at a vile cigaretteB
