The Last Days Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: AABBCC DDEEFG HHIIJJ KKLLMM

The russet leaves of the sycamoreA
Lie at last on the valley floorA
By the autumn wind swept to and froB
Like ghosts in a tale of long agoB
Shallow and dear the Carmel glidesC
Where the willows droop on its vine walled sidesC
-
The bracken rust is red on the hillD
The pines stand brooding somber and stillD
Gray are the cliffs and the waters grayE
Where the seagulls dip to the sea born sprayE
Sad November lady of rainF
Sends the goose wedge over againG
-
Wilder now for the verdure's birthH
Falls the sunlight over the earthH
Kildees call from the fields where nowI
The banding blackbirds follow the plowI
Rustling poplar and brittle weedJ
Whisper low to the river reedJ
-
Days departing linger and sighK
Stars come soon to the quiet skyK
Buried voices intimate strangeL
Cry to body and soul of changeL
Beauty eternal fugitiveM
Seeks the home that we cannot giveM
