Rhyme Scheme: ABCB DEDE FGFH IJIJ KLKL MAMA

A monument to WashingtonA
A tablet graven with his nameB
Green be the mound it stands uponC
And everlasting as his fameB
-
His glory fills the land the plainD
The moor the mountain and the martE
More firm than column urn or faneD
His monument the human heartE
-
The Christian patriot hero sageF
The chief from heaven in mercy sentG
His deeds are written on the ageF
His country is his monumentH
-
The sword of Gideon and the LordI
Was mighty in his mighty handJ
The God who guided he adoredI
And with His blessing freed the landJ
-
The first in war the first in peaceK
The first in hearts that freeman ownL
Unparalleled till time shall ceaseK
He lives immortal and aloneL
-
Yet let the rock hewn tower ariseM
High to the pathway of the sunA
And speak to the approving skiesM
Our gratitude to WashingtonA
