To My Absent Daughter Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABABAA CDEDFF GHGHII GJGKLL MNMOKK

Georgie come home Life's tendrils cling about theeA
Where'er thou art by wayward fancy ledB
We miss thee love Home is not home without theeA
The light and glory of the house have fledB
The autumn shiver of the linden treeA
Is like the pang that thrills my frame for theeA
-
Georgie come home To parents brother sisterC
Thy place is vacant in this lonely hallD
Where shines the river through the Jeannie VistaE
While twilight shadows lengthen on the wallD
Our spirits falter at the close of dayF
And weary night moves tardily awayF
-
Georgie come home The winds and waves are singingG
The mournful music of their parting songH
To soul and sense the sad forboding bringingG
Some ill detains thee in the town so longH
Oh that the morn may dissipate the fearI
And bring good tidings of my daughter dearI
-
Georgie come home The forest leaves are fallingG
And dreary visions in thy absence comeJ
The fountain on the hill in vain is callingG
Thee my beloved one to thy woodland homeK
And I imagine every passing breezeL
Whispers thy name among the moaning treesL
-
Georgie come home Thy gentle look can banishM
The gathering gloom round this once cheerful hearthN
In thy sweet presence all our care will vanishM
And sorrow soften into mellow mirthO
Return my darling never more to roamK
Heart of the Highlands Georgie dear come homeK
