The Sweep's Carol Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABABCDCDE FGFGCDCDE HIHICJCDE

Through the streets of New York CityA
Blithely every mornB
I carolled o'er my artless dittyA
Cheerly though forlornB
Before the rosy light my layC
Was to the maids begunD
Ere winters snows had passed awayC
Or smiled the summer sunD
CAROL O a y e oE
-
In summer months I'd fondly wooF
Those merry dark eyed girlsG
With faces of ebon hueF
And teeth like eastern pearlsG
One vowed my love she would repayC
Her heart my song had wonD
When winter snows had passed awayC
And smiled the summer sunD
CAROL O a y e oE
-
A year alas had scarcely flownH
Hope beamed but to deceiveI
Ere I was left to weep aloneH
From morn till dewy eveI
She died one dreary break of dayC
Grief weighs my heart uponJ
In vain the snows may pass awayC
Or smile the summer sunD
CAROL O a y e oE
