The Rock Of The Pilgrims Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCBDEDE FGFGHIHI

A rock in the wilderness welcomed our siresA
From bondage far over the dark rolling seaB
On that holy altar they kindled the firesC
Jehovah which glow in our bosoms for TheeB
Thy blessings descended in sunshine and showerD
Or rose from the soil that was sown by Thy handE
The mountain and valley rejoiced in Thy powerD
And heaven encircled and smiled on the landE
-
The Pilgrims of old an example have givenF
Of mild resignation devotion and loveG
Which beams like the star in the blue vault of heavenF
A beacon light swung in their mansion aboveG
In church and cathedral we kneel in OUR prayerH
Their temple and chapel were valley and hillI
But God is the same in the isle or the airH
And He is the Rock that we lean upon stillI
