The May-queen Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCCB DBEEB FBGGB FBCCB

Like flights of singing birds went byA
The cheerful hours of girlhood's dayB
When in my native bowersC
Of simple buds and flowersC
They wove a crown and hailed me Queen of MayB
-
Like airy sprites the lasses cameD
Spring's offerings at my feet to layB
The crystal from the fountainE
The green bough from the mountainE
They brought to cheer and shade the Queen of MayB
-
Around the May pole on the greenF
A fairy ring they tripped awayB
All merriment and pleasureG
To chords of tuneful measureG
They bounded by the happy Queen of MayB
-
Though years have passed and Time has strownF
My raven locks with flakes of grayB
Fond Memory brings the hoursC
Of buds and blossom showersC
When in girlhood I was crowned the Queen of MayB
