The Fallen Brave Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABABCDED FGFGHIHI JKLKMNMN

From Cypress and from laurel boughsA
Are twined in sorrow and in prideB
The leaves that deck the mouldering browsA
Of those who for their country diedB
In sorrow that the sable pallC
Enfolds the valiant and the braveD
In pride that those who nobly fallE
Win garlands that adorn the graveD
-
The onset the pursuit the roarF
Of victory o'er the routed foeG
Will startle from their rest no moreF
The fallen brave of MexicoG
To God alone such spirits yieldH
He took them in their strength and bloomI
When gathering on the tented fieldH
The garlands woven for the tombI
-
The shrouded flag the drooping spearJ
The muffled drum the solemn bellK
The funeral train the dirge the bierL
The mourners' sad and last farewellK
Are fading tributes to the worthM
Of those whose deeds this homage claimN
But Time who mingles them with earthM
Keeps green the garlands of their fameN
