The Colonel Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABABCDCD EFEFGHGH IJIJKLML ANAOPEPE

The Colonel Such a creatureA
I met him at the ballB
So fair in form and featureA
And so divinely tallB
He praised my dimpled cheeks and curlsC
While whirling through the danceD
And matched me with the dark eyed girlsC
Of Italy and FranceD
-
He said in accents thrillingE
Love's boundless as the seaF
And I dear maid am willingE
To give up all for theeF
I heard him blushed Would ask mammaG
And then my eyes grew dimH
He looked I said Mamma papaG
I'd give up all for himH
-
My governor is rich and oldI
This well the Colonel knewJ
Love's wings he said when fringed with goldI
Are beautiful to viewJ
I thought his 'havior quite the tonK
Until I saw him stareL
When merely told that brother JohnM
Papa would make his heirL
-
Next day and the day afterA
I dressed for him in vainN
Was moved to tears and laughterA
He never came againO
But I have heard for Widow DashP
He bought the bridal ringE
And he will we her for her cashP
The ugly hateful thingE
