O'er The Mountains Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABABCBCBADAD EBEBFBFBGDGD

Some spirit wafts our mountain layA
Hili ho boys hili hoB
To distant groves and glens awayA
Hili ho boys hili hoB
E'en so the tide of empire flowsC
Ho boys hili hoB
Rejoicing as it westward goesC
Ho boys hili hoB
To refresh our weary wayA
Gush the crystal fountainsD
As a pilgrim band we strayA
Cheerly o'er the mountainsD
-
The woodland rings with song and shoutE
Hili ho boys hili hoB
As though a fairy hunt were outE
Hili ho boys hili hoB
E'en so the voice of woman cheersF
Ho boys hili hoB
The hearts of hardy mountaineersF
Ho boys hili hoB
Like the glow of northern skiesG
Mirrored in the fountainsD
Beams the love light of fond eyesG
As we cross the mountainsD
