Funeral Hymn Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABABCDCD EFEGHIHI JKJLMNMN OPOPAFAF

Man dieth and wasteth awayA
And where is he Hark from the skiesB
I hear a voice answer and sayA
The spirit of man never diesB
His body which came from the earthC
Must mingle again with the sodD
But his soul which in heaven had birthC
Returns to the bosom of GodD
-
No terror has death or the graveE
To those who believe in the LordF
We know the Redeemer can saveE
And lean on the faith of his wordG
While ashes to ashes and dustH
We give unto dust in our gloomI
The light of salvation we trustH
Is hung like a lamp in the tombI
-
The sky will be burnt as a scrollJ
The earth wrapped in flames will expireK
But freed from all shackles the soulJ
Will rise in the midst of the fireL
Then brothers mourn not for the deadM
Who rest from their labors forgivenN
Learn this from your Bible insteadM
The grave is the gateway to heavenN
-
O Lord God Almighty to TheeO
We turn as our solace aboveP
The waters may fail from the seaO
But not from thy fountains of loveP
Oh teach us Thy will to obeyA
And sing with one heart and accordF
He gave and he taketh awayA
And praised be the name of the LordF
