Bessy Bell Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABABACADE AFAFABABE AEAEAGAGE

When life looks drear and lonely loveA
And pleasant fancies fleeB
Then will the Muses only loveA
Bestow a thought on meB
Mine is a harp which Pleasure loveA
To waken strives in vainC
To Joy's entrancing measure loveA
It ne'er can thrill againD
Why mock me Bessy BellE
-
Oh do not ask me ever loveA
For rapture woven rhymesF
For vain is each endeavor loveA
To sound Mirth's play bell chimesF
Yet still believe me dearest loveA
Though sad my song may beB
This heart still dotes sincerest loveA
And grateful turns to theeB
My once fond Bessy BellE
-
Those eyes still rest upon me loveA
I feel their magic spellE
With that same look you won me loveA
Fair gentle Bessy BellE
My doom you've idly spoken loveA
You never can be mineG
But though my heart is broken loveA
Still Bessy it is thineG
Adieu false Bessy BellE
