A Parody Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABABCDCDEABAB FBFBGHGHEABAB IBIBBEBEEABAB

On old Long Island's sea girt shoreA
We caught a cod the other dayB
He never had been there beforeA
And wished that he had stayed awayB
We laid him on the beach to dryC
Then served him frizzled on a dishD
A warning to the smaller fryC
As well as all the larger fishD
O o o o oE
On old Long Island's sea girt shoreA
We caught a cod the other dayB
He never had been there beforeA
And wished that he had stayed awayB
-
Oh 'twas a scaly thing to haulF
This tom cod from his native sprayB
And thus to frighten one and allF
The finny tribe from RockawayB
They shun the fisher's hook and lineG
And never venture near his netH
So when at Rockaway you dineG
Now not a thing but clams you getH
O o o o oE
On old Long Island's sea girt shoreA
We caught a cod the other dayB
He never had been there beforeA
And wished that he had stayed awayB
-
Should critics at my ballad carpI
To them this simple truth I'll sayB
The grammar's quite as good as SharpI
Wrote on the beach of RockawayB
The tune's the same that Russell cribbedB
With the addition of his OE
Which makes it or the singer fibbedB
Original and all the goE
O o o o oE
On old Long Island's sea girt shoreA
We caught a cod the other dayB
He never had been there beforeA
And wished that he had stayed awayB
