Some fairy spirit with his wandA
I think has hovered o'er the dellB
And spread this film upon the pondA
And touched it with this drowsy spellB
-
For here the musing soul is mergedC
In moods no other scene can bringD
And sweeter seems the air when scourgedC
With wandering wild bees' murmuringD
-
One ripple streaks the little lakeE
Sharp purple blue the birches thinF
And silvery crowd the edge yet breakE
To let a straying sunbeam inF
-
How came we through the yielding woodG
That day to this sweet rustling shoreH
Oh there together while we stoodG
A butterfly was wafted o'erI
-
In sleepy light and even nowJ
His glimmering beauty doth returnK
Upon me when the soft winds blowL
And lilies toward the sunlight yearnK
-
The yielding wood And yet 't was bothM
To yield unto our happy marchN
Doubtful it seemed at times if bothM
Could pass its green elastic archN
-
Yet there at last upon the margeO
We found ourselves and there beholdP
In hosts the lilies white and largeO
Lay close with hearts of downy goldP
-
Deep in the weedy waters spreadQ
The rootlets of the placid bloomR
So sprung my love's flower that was bredQ
In deep still waters of heart's gloomR
-
So sprung and so that morn was nursedS
To live in light and on the poolT
Wherein its roots were deep immersedS
Burst into beauty broad and coolT
-
Few words were said a moment passedU
I know not how it came that aweV
And ardor of a glance that castU
Our love in universal lawW
-
But all at once a bird sang loudX
From dead twigs of the gleamy beechY
His notes dropped dewy as out of a cloudX
A blessing on our married speechY
-
Ah Love how fresh and rare even nowJ
That moment and that mood returnK
Upon me when the soft winds blowL
And lilies toward the sunlight yearnK
