hes are my daily breadA
Yet never proveB
-
My knees pierce th'earth mine eies the skieC
And yet the sphereD
And centre both to me denieE
That thou art thereF
-
Yet can I mark how herbs belowG
Grow green and gayC
As if to meet thee they did knowG
While I decayC
-
Yet can I mark how starres aboveH
Simper and shineE
As having keyes unto they loveH
While poore I pineE
-
I sent a sigh to seek thee outI
Deep drawn in painE
Wing'd like an arrow but my scoutI
Returns in vainE
-
I tun'd another having storeJ
Into a groneE
Because the search was dumbe beforeJ
But all was oneE
-
Lord dost thou some new fabrick moldK
Which favour winnesL
And keeps thee present leaving th' oldK
Unto their sinnesL
-
Where is my God what hidden placeL
Conceals thee stillM
What covert dare eclipse thy faceL
Is it thy willM
-
O let not that of any thingC
Let rather brasseL
Or steel or mountains be thy ringC
And I will passeL
-
Thy will such an intrenching isL
As passeth thoughtN
To it all strength all subtiltiesL
Are things of noughtN
-
Thy will such a strange distance isL
As that to itN
East and West touch the poles do kisseL
And parallels meetN
-
Since then my grief must be as largeO
As is thy spaceL
Thy distance from me see my chargeO
Lord see my caseL
-
O take these barres these lengths awayL
Turn and restore meP
Be not Almightie let me sayL
Against but for meP
-
When thou dost turn and wilt be neareJ
What edge so keenE
What point so piercing can appeareJ
To come betweenE
-
For as thy absence doth excellM
All distance knownE
So doth thy nearenesse bear the bellM
Making two oneE
