Repentance Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCDDC EEFGGF HHIJKI LLMNNM OPQNNQ RRDSSD

Lord I confess my sin is greatA
Great is my sin Oh gently treatB
With thy quick flow'r thy momentany bloomC
Whose life still pressingD
Is one undressingD
A steady aiming at a tombC
-
Man's age is two hours' work or threeE
Each day doth round about us seeE
Thus are we to delights but we are allF
To sorrows oldG
If life be toldG
From what life feeleth Adam's fallF
-
O let thy height of mercy thenH
Compassionate short breathed menH
Cut me not off for my most foul transgressionI
I do confessJ
My foolishnessK
My God accept of my confessionI
-
Sweeten at length this bitter bowlL
Which thou hast pour'd into my soulL
Thy wormwood turn to health winds to fair weatherM
For if thou stayN
I and this dayN
As we did rise we die togetherM
-
When thou for sin rebukest manO
Forthwith he waxeth woe and wanP
Bitterness fills our bowels all our heartsQ
Pine and decayN
And dropp awayN
And carry with them th'other partsQ
-
But thou wilt sin and grief destroyR
That so the broken bones may joyR
And tune together in a well set songD
Full of his praisesS
Who dead men raisesS
Fractures well cur'd make us more strongD
