Affliction (iv) Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABBACC DEEFGG HCCHII BJJBII KLLKJJ

Broken in pieces all asunderA
Lord hunt me notB
A thing forgotB
Once a poor creature now a wonderA
A wonder tortur'd in the spaceC
Betwixt this world and that of graceC
-
My thoughts are all a case of knivesD
Wounding my heartE
With scatter'd smartE
As wat'ring pots give flowers their livesF
Nothing their fury can controlG
While they do wound and prick my soulG
-
All my attendants are at strifeH
Quitting their placeC
Unto my faceC
Nothing performs the task of lifeH
The elements are let loose to fightI
And while I live try out their rightI
-
Oh help my God let not their plotB
Kill them and meJ
And also theeJ
Who art my life dissolve the knotB
As the sun scatters by his lightI
All the rebellions of the nightI
-
Then shall those powers which work for griefK
Enter thy payL
And day by dayL
Labour thy praise and my reliefK
With care and courage building meJ
Till I reach heav'n and much more theeJ
