To M. S. G. (ii) Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCB DEDE FGFG HIHI JKJK

When I dream that you love me you'll surely forgiveA
Extend not your anger to sleepB
For in visions alone your affection can liveC
I rise and it leaves me to weepB
-
Then Morpheus envelop my faculties fastD
Shed o'er me your languor benignE
Should the dream of to night but resemble the lastD
What rapture celestial is mineE
-
They tell us that slumber the sister of deathF
Mortality's emblem is givenG
To fate how I long to resign my frail breathF
If this be a foretaste of HeavenG
-
Ah frown not sweet Lady unbend your soft browH
Nor deem me too happy in thisI
If I sin in my dream I atone for it nowH
Thus doom'd but to gaze upon blissI
-
Though in visions sweet Lady perhaps you may smileJ
Oh think not my penance deficientK
When dreams of your presence my slumbers beguileJ
To awake will be torture sufficientK
