Think'st thou I saw thy beauteous eyesA
Suffus'd in tears implore to stayB
And heard unmov'd thy plenteous sighsA
Which said far more than words can sayB
-
Though keen the grief thy tears exprestB
When love and hope lay both o'erthrownC
Yet still my girl this bleeding breastB
Throbb'd with deep sorrow as thine ownC
-
But when our cheeks with anguish glow'dB
When thy sweet lips were join'd to mineC
The tears that from my eyelids flow'dB
Were lost in those which fell from thineC
-
Thou could'st not feel my burning cheekD
Thy gushing tears had quench'd its flameE
And as thy tongue essay'd to speakD
In sighs alone it breath'd my nameE
-
And yet my girl we weep in vainC
In vain our fate in sighs deploreF
Remembrance only can remainC
But that will make us weep the moreF
-
Again thou best belov'd adieuB
Ah if thou canst o'ercome regretB
Nor let thy mind past joys reviewB
Our only hope is to forgetB
