On The Death Of A Young Lady, Cousin To The Author, And Very Dear To Him Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABAC DEDE FGFG HDID JKJK LMNM

Hush'd are the winds and still the evening gloomA
Not e'en a zephyr wanders through the groveB
Whilst I return to view my Margaret's tombA
And scatter flowers on the dust I loveC
-
Within this narrow cell reclines her clayD
That clay where once such animation beam'dE
The King of Terrors seiz'd her as his preyD
Not worth nor beauty have her life redeem'dE
-
Oh could that King of Terrors pity feelF
Or Heaven reverse the dread decree of fateG
Not here the mourner would his grief revealF
Not here the Muse her virtues would relateG
-
But wherefore weep Her matchless spirit soarsH
Beyond where splendid shines the orb of dayD
And weeping angels lead her to those bowersI
Where endless pleasures virtuous deeds repayD
-
And shall presumptuous mortals Heaven arraignJ
And madly Godlike Providence accuseK
Ah no far fly from me attempts so vainJ
I'll ne'er submission to my God refuseK
-
Yet is remembrance of those virtues dearL
Yet fresh the memory of that beauteous faceM
Still they call forth my warm affection's tearN
Still in my heart retain their wonted placeM
