The Two Goblets Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABABCDCD EFEF GFHF

Bearing two crystal goblets in her handsA
To a philosopher an Angel cameB
One wine shone clear as water o er white sandsA
One red as flameB
Choose said the Angel From life s wine press flowsC
For all mankind the vintage which I bringD
The pale cup holds exemption from life s woesC
The red brings sufferingD
-
One wine is colourless the dreamer saidE
Who suffer keenest nobler joys attainF
And to the dregs drained from the goblet redE
The draught of painF
-
Then spake the Angel Thou hast chosen wellG
What seemeth loss to thee shall prove thy gainF
All that is pure and sweet and beautifulH
Is born of painF
