The Lion's Whelps Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCDBBEFFBDGHIGGJKKG LMNOMMPIIM

There is scarlet on his foreheadA
There are scars across his faceB
Tis the bloody dew of battle dripping down dripping downC
But the war heart of the LionD
Turns to iron in its placeB
When he halts to face disaster when he turns to meet disgraceB
Stung and keen and mettled with the life blood of his ownE
Let the hunters ware who flout himF
When he calls his whelps about himF
When he sets the goal before him and he settles to the paceB
Tricked and wounded Are we beatenD
Though they hold our strength at playG
We have faced these things aforetimes long ago long agoH
From sunlit Sydney HarbourI
And ten thousand miles awayG
From the far Canadian forests to the Sounds of Milford BayG
They have answered they have answered and we know the answer nowJ
From the Britains such as theseK
Strewn across the world wide seasK
Comes the rally and the bugle note that makes us one to dayG
-
Beaten Let them come against usL
We can meet them one and allM
We have faced the World aforetimes not in vain not in vainN
Twice ten thousand hearths be widowedO
Twice ten thousand hearts may fallM
But a million voices answer We are ready for the callM
And the sword we draw for Justice shall not see its sheath againP
Nor our cannon cease to thunderI
Till we break their strength asunderI
And the Lion s whelps are round him and the Old Flag over allM
