The Land Of The Dawning Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: AABABCDCDEEFEFEGEG EEHEHEIEI BBJBJKLKL EEEEEMDMD

Darkrose her shore in seas of amethystA
By tropic breezes kissedA
A summer land in watery wastes forlornB
Her ranges floating in the snow white mistA
And gold of early mornB
The tides of Empire ebbed and flowed afarC
The thrones of nations in the dust were hurledD
Silent she slept beneath the morning starC
A virgin worldD
Love Birth and Death the stress of Age and RaceE
Changed not her maiden faceE
Unstocked her pastures and untilled her soilF
She who for labour builds a throne apaceE
Saw not her people toilF
Down the low valleys up the stormy steepsE
Careless they roamed at will the land was freeG
From desert stark to where the mangrove sleepsE
Upon the seaG
-
There dropped no anchor at her river barsE
Beneath the quiet starsE
No wandering sail her silent waters sweptH
By waste and scrub o er plain and rocky scarsE
No alien footstep creptH
In feathery billows of her grassy seasE
Some lonely mountain stretched its capes of blueI
Only the heavens above her and the breezeE
Her secrets knewI
-
Where the wild grass grew rank on slopes forlornB
Rise fields of yellow cornB
And purple lucerne bloom makes sweet the airJ
The sullen mountain lost in mists of mornB
Its golden heart lays bareJ
Spoils of her pastures crowd full many a martK
Her glittering treasure calls to many a landL
She has no secrets for the daring heartK
And strong brown handL
-
The smoke and thunder of her cities riseE
To the same careless skiesE
Her arteries thread the same wide sunlit leasE
Her fleets stretch forth their wings of enterpriseE
O er the same summer seasE
She to the Nations cries No Past no FameM
No Memories quicken round my flag unfurledD
The mightier therefore shall I carve my nameM
Upon the WorldD
