Seddon Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABABCDCD EFEF GHGH IJIJ KLKL

When from his place a forest monarch fallsA
A thunder shakes the leafy leagues acrossB
Reverberating to its utmost wallsA
So through an Empire rings this sound of lossB
Still as of old the kingless forest aislesC
We see but not the strength that was their fameD
So at Death s voice far from his kingless aislesC
The last Great Tribune answers to his nameD
-
Nature that builds great minds for mighty tasksE
Sculptured his frame to match the soul withinF
Taught him how wisdom wields the power it asksE
For each new conquest set him more to winF
-
Rough hewn was he for power a massive mouldG
Broad brained far sighted honourable freeH
From narrowing envy with a heart of goldG
As wide and deep and dominant as the seaH
-
He passes but his memory is powerI
Behind him lives the good that none may stayJ
His name remains a beacon light a towerI
By which all feebler hearts may guide their wayJ
-
Come let us follow him with reverent feetK
With fern and rata twine the wattle fairL
Tread soft a mighty heart has ceased to beatK
And one of Nature s kings is sleeping thereL
