Australia Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: AAABBB CCC DDD EEF AAA GGG HHH III JJJ HHH KKK LLL

Earth's mightiest isle She stands aloneA
The wide seas wash around Her throneA
Crowned by the red sun as his ownA
This is the last of all the landsB
Where Freedom s fray torn banner standsB
Not wrested yet from freemen s handsB
-
The world s gray page lies bare to dayC
The rise of nations the decayC
Will She too rise and fall as theyC
-
She called men to Her and they cameD
Whose deaths have given the Desert nameD
Their fame is written with Her fameD
-
We toil and strive We have our hourE
But She shall grow from power to powerE
To wear the splendour of her dowerF
-
The trust is ours to us aloneA
We are the strong foundation stoneA
The seed from which the flower is grownA
-
And whilst a realm in fee we holdG
To guard the New against the OldG
Nor take the glitter for the goldG
-
What shall it profit Her if weH
Make gold our God and strength our pleaH
And call wild license LibertyH
-
If in our scorn of creed and kingI
All reverence to the winds we flingI
And fall before a baser thingI
-
Though in Her coming hour of prideJ
Her millions throng the Desert wideJ
Her cities stud the water sideJ
-
What though Her sword unconquered beH
Her armoured navies sweep the seaH
If still Her people are not freeH
-
To be the wave of thought indeedK
From New World vaunt and Old World needK
To manlier day and mightier deedK
-
To be a people proved and strongL
True freemen of the Poet s songL
For whom the world has waited longL
