The Heroes Of Dovrefeld (from The Old Danish) Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCB DEFE FGHG HIJI KALA MNJN OPJP FQRQ JSJS OTUT RJCJ

On Dovrefeld in NorwayA
Were once together seenB
The twelve heroic brothersC
Of Ingeborg the queenB
-
And they were all magiciansD
Possest of mighty artE
Who freely read the RunicF
And knew the rhyme by heartE
-
The first could turn the lightningF
And quench its ruddy gleamG
The second with a whisperH
Could still the running streamG
-
The third beneath the waterH
Could dive like any fishI
The fourth could get provisionJ
By striking on his dishI
-
The fifth upon the gold harpK
So pleasantly could playA
That all the men who heard himL
Began to dance awayA
-
The sixth he had a bugleM
And when he blew a blastN
The stoutest of his foemenJ
Would fly before him fastN
-
The seventh unimpededO
Through solid hills could roamP
The eighth could walk the oceanJ
When billows were in foamP
-
The ninth could draw by magicF
The fishes from the deepQ
The tenth was never wearyR
Nor overcome by sleepQ
-
The eleventh bound the dragonJ
Which crept among the grassS
And all he wish'd to happenJ
Was sure to come to passS
-
The twelfth who was reputedO
The wisest of the bandT
Knew what was going forwardU
In every foreign landT
-
And now forsooth I tell yeR
Who listen to my strainJ
That such a set of brothersC
Will ne'er be seen againJ
