Sir Lave to the island stray'dA
He wedded there a lovely maidA
I'll have her yet said JohnB
-
He brought her home across the mainC
With knights and ladies in the trainC
I'm close behind said JohnB
-
They plac'd her on the bridal seatD
Sir Lave bade them drink and eatD
Aye that we will said JohnB
-
The servants led her then to bedE
But could not loose her girdle redE
I can perhaps said JohnB
-
He shut the door with all his mightF
He lock'd it fast and quench'd the lightF
I shall sleep here said JohnB
-
A servant to Sir Lave hiedF
Sir John is sleeping with the brideF
Aye that I am said JohnB
-
Sir Lave to the chamber flewG
Arise and straight the door undoG
A likely thing said JohnB
-
He struck with shield he struck with spearH
Come out thou Dog and fight me hereI
Another time said JohnB
-
And since thou with my bride hast lainC
To our good king I will complainC
That thou canst do said JohnB
-
As soon as e'er the morning shoneJ
Sir Lave sought our monarch's throneJ
I'll go there too said JohnB
-
O King chastise this wicked wightF
For with my wife he slept last nightF
'T is very true said JohnB
-
Since ye two love one pretty faceK
Your lances must decide the caseK
With all my heart said JohnB
-
The sun on high was shining brightF
And thousands came to see the fightF
Lo here I am said JohnB
-
The first course that they ran so freeL
Sir John's horse fell upon his kneeL
Now help me God said JohnB
-
The next course that they ran in ireM
Sir Lave fell among the mireM
He's dead enough said JohnB
-
The victor to the castle hiedF
And there in tears he found the brideF
Thou art my own said JohnB
-
That night forgetting all alarmsN
Again she blest him in her armsN
I have her now said JohnB
