Come Why halloa that you JackA
How's the world been using youB
Want your pipe it's in the jarC
Think I might be looking blueB
Maud's been breaking off with meD
Fact see here I've got the ringE
That's the note she sent it inF
Read it soothing sort of thingE
Jack you know I write sometimesG
Must have read some things of mineH
Well I thought I'd just send MaudI
Something for a valentineH
So I ground some verses outJ
In the softest kind of styleK
Full of love and that you knowL
Bothered me an awful whileK
Quite a heavy piece of workM
So when I had got them doneN
Why I thought them much too goodO
Just to waste that way on oneN
Jack I told you didn't IP
All about that black eyed girlQ
Up in Stratford last JulyP
Oh you know you saw her curlQ
Well old fellow she's the oneN
That this row is all aboutJ
For I sent her who'd have thoughtR
Maud would ever find it outJ
Those same verses word for wordS
Hang it man you needn't roarT
Splendid joke well so I thoughtR
No don't think so any moreT
Yesterday you know it rainedU
I'd been up late at a ballV
Didn't know what else to doB
Went up and made Maud a callV
Found some other girl there tooB
They were playing a duetW
Fred my cousin Nelly DeaneX
Yes Jack there was my brunetteW
You should just have seen me JackA
Now old fellow please don't laughY
I feel bad about it factZ
And I really can't stand chaffY
Well I tried to talk to MaudI
There was Nell though sitting byP
Every now and then she'd laughY
Sure I can't imagine whyP
Maud would read that beastly poemA2
Nell's eyes said in just one glanceB2
Wont I make you pay for thisC2
If I ever get the chanceB2
Some one came and rang the bellD2
Just a note for Nell by postE2
Jack I saw my monogramF2
I'd have rather seen a ghostE2
Yes her verses I supposeG2
That her folks had sent them downH2
Couldn't get up there you knowL
Till she'd left and come to townH2
Nelly looked them quickly throughB
Laughed by Jove I thought she'd chokeI2
Maud he'll kill me dear oh dearJ2
Read that isn't it a jokeI2
Maud glanced through them sank right downH2
On the sofa hid her faceK2
Crying not much laughing JackA
Don't think she's a hopeless caseK2
I just grabbed my hat and leftL2
Only wish I'd gone beforeT
How they laughed I heard them JackA
Till I got outside the doorT
There confession's done me goodO
I can never win her backA
So I'll calmly let her slideM2
Pass the ash cup will you JackA
