No. 101 (on His Brother's Death) Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABABCCDEFE

By ways remote and distant waters spedA
Brother to thy sad grave side am I comeB
That I may give the last gifts to the deadA
And vainly parley with thine ashes dumbB
Since she who now bestows and now deniesC
Hath ta'en thee hapless brother from mine eyesC
But lo these gifts the heirlooms of past yearsD
Are made sad things to grace thy coffin shellE
Take them all drenched with a brother's tearsF
And brother for all time hail and farewellE

Gaius Valerius Catullus
