days after the wrangleA
we did not taste each other's wordsB
on the staircase a helpless woman gasps on a stretcherC
that was the th body goingD
-
the opponent coughed reelingD
to my doorE
her heart racing then a pauseF
to make sure it was my faceG
then slowing down slowing downH
-
Please believe me when I say I love youI
Imagining the strangeness andJ
how the sun was dim that morning IK
found it hard to believe herC
-
Please believe me when I say I love youI
To the outgoing bodiesL
To that feverish boy who can not hear meM
I gift Israel's relentless faith your way toI
those who can not hope any longer inN
the hoping she sang sweeping back her footprintsO
-
That evening she returned to my door gearedP
in a nose mask thick velvet glovesQ
not meeting the nice pile of shoesR
in my next neighbor's balcony she saidS
Please believe me when I say I love youI
-
and that was the first time I had heard her in a faint voiceT
Reimagining the strangeness howU
the sun was spearing down that nightV
-
I believed her feelingD
an old beginning a new endW
wanting to believe her whollyM
I touched her dingy dreadS
it was Jesus at the doorE
