Modern Elfland Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: AABA ACDC AEFE AGAG HIAI JKLM NCE OPQ

I cut a staff in a churchyard copseA
I clad myself in ragged thingsA
I set a feather in my capB
That fell out of an angel's wingsA
-
I filled my wallet with white stonesA
I took three foxgloves in my handC
I slung my shoes across my backD
And so I went to fairylandC
-
But Lo within that ancient placeA
Science had reared her iron crownE
And the great cloud of steam went upF
That telleth where she takes a townE
-
But cowled with smoke and starred with lampsA
That strange land's light was still its ownG
The word that witched the woods and hillsA
Spoke in the iron and the stoneG
-
Not Nature's hand had ever curvedH
That mute unearthly porter's spineI
Like sleeping dragon's sudden eyesA
The signals leered along the lineI
-
The chimneys thronging crooked or straightJ
Were fingers signalling the skyK
The dog that strayed across the streetL
Seemed four legged by monstrosityM
-
'In vain ' I cried 'though you too touchN
The new time's desecrating handC
Through all the noises of a townE
I hear the heart of fairyland '-
-
I read the name above a doorO
Then through my spirit pealed and passedP
'This is the town of thine own homeQ
And thou hast looked on it at last '-
