Eternities Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABBA CBBC DEED

I cannot count the pebbles in the brookA
Well hath He spoken 'Swear not by thy headB
Thou knowest not the hairs ' though He we readB
Writes that wild number in his own strange bookA
-
I cannot count the sands or search the seasC
Death cometh and I leave so much untrodB
Grant my immortal aureole O my GodB
And I will name the leaves upon the treesC
-
In heaven I shall stand on gold and glassD
Still brooding earth's arithmetic to spellE
Or see the fading of the fires of hellE
Ere I have thanked my God for all the grassD
